I love to read for the escapism as well as to learn to be a better writer myself. This page is where I'll share books I read and loved!
Diomere's Exile is Book 1 of my fantasy romance series, The Gate Keeper Chronicles. It is a stand alone story with an HEA ending. Available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and iBooks in e-book and print. Find out more about my books at my website: www.SabrinaAFish.com
Patrick Rothfuss is one of my top fantasy authors. His writing is flawless, his world-building masterful, and his magic system so well done as to almost be believable.
The Name of the Wind is an epic fantasy about the extraordinary life journey of Kvothe, child genius turned renowned...hero? villain? We don't know. At the beginning of the story we find him hidden away at an inn in the middle of nowhere with his assistant. A chronicler finds him and convinces him to tell his story. Kvothe agrees, but says he'll do it over 3 days. The Name of the Wind is day 1 of that telling. We experience his adventures as he grows up and makes it to University. While there are plot lines in Kvothe's telling that end nicely at the end of this book, Rothfuss leaves enough open to make us what to continue to the next. The added plot of things occurring in real time while Kvothe tells his story, just adds that much more incentive to continue on to the next book.
The character development, world-building, and magic system all add to an amazing plot. I can't wait to find out if Kvothe is hero or villain.
I loved this book. Highly recommended.
Brandon Sanderson is my all time favorite author because of this series. After reading the last word, I closed the book and just sat in stunned awe. I didn't expect that ending. I won't get too in depth in this review because to do so would spoil it for other readers.
This series has one of the most incredible worlds and an amazing magic system. The fight scenes are epic! I loved Vin, Kelsier, Sazed, and the whole team. Sazed was, without a doubt, one of my most favorite characters because I empathized with his "what to believe" struggle. I went through it myself.
This series has some of my favorite quotes. The writing is flawless. If you love fantasy, you will love this trilogy.
Highly recommended.
G.A. Aiken's Dragon Kin series is one of my 2 favorite fantasy romance series EVER! I read it to learn just as much as I read it for enjoyment. The author has such an amazing gift when it comes to writing humor into a story.
Dragon Actually is book 1 in the Dragon Kin series. I would recommend vising the author's website for her recommended reading order as that really adds to the overall hilarity. This story features one of the fiercest heroines in Annwyl the Bloody. I love her strength, her passion, and her complete acceptance of herself. She shakes up her dragon's quiet life, bringing his siblings and father into his space, and forcing him to once again care about the world...well, the part that involves Annwyl anyway. The interactions between the dragon siblings and their parents is so funny.

This is 1 of my 2 most favorite fantasy romance series EVER! It's romance, which means happy ending...which is why I read the genre, but the world-building is just as good as anything in the non-romance fantasy/sci-fi genre. Nalini Singh is truly an amazing writer and one I read to learn from just as much as I read for the enjoyment.
Slave to Sensation is book 1 in the Psy/Changling series. It features cat shifter alpha, Lucas Hunter, and cardinal psy, Sasha Duncan. I loved that it wasn't inst-love right from the beginning. The build up was so sensual as Sasha slowly gives in to her emotions and Lucas slowly sees that the Psy CAN feel something. The scene with the cub and Sasha's boot will always be one of my favorites. Both characters are complex and strong which makes for a very satisfying love story. Add in the search for a serial killer and you can't help but devour every word.
